The city of Shahjahanabad (17th century) is often regarded as the largest and busiest medieval cities of India. A happy mix of commerce, heritage and layers of history and built heritage from across the centuries – Mughal, British and contemporary; mind blowing street food; the lovely people of the walled city – all weave a fascinating web for the walker.
In this excursion, we explore the life of the city at night; almost a parallel life.
We will start our walk at Sisganj Gurudwara, followed by dinner at Paranthe Wali Gali. We then proceed to explore the hidden wonders that the city offers in its million by-lanes, ultimately walking all the way down to the Khari Baoli, the spice market which presents an incredible spectacle all night long!
From here, we wheel down to Darya Ganj and finally conclude the walk at Delhi Gate, going through Darya Ganj’s eclectic mix of art deco colonial buildings, and the last fragments of Delhi’s famed wall.
